The Pashupatinath began as a small documentation project on the ghats of the Bagmati — it has since grown into the web's most complete gateway to the temple, built with the priests, scholars, and communities who tend it.

The Pashupatinath was founded to gather the temple's scattered knowledge — its scriptures, rituals, architecture, and living traditions — into a single, careful, ever-growing archive built with the communities who tend it.

How it started

In 2019, a small group of researchers and photographers began cataloguing the oral histories of priests serving at Pashupatinath — recordings that, until then, existed only in memory. What started as a personal archive grew, over several years, into a public resource: a single home for the temple's scripture, ritual calendar, architecture, and living festivals.

Who we work with

Every ritual guide, historical account, and puja listing on this site is developed in partnership with registered temple priests, local historians, and — where possible — the communities who have cared for Pashupatinath across generations. Nothing is published without their review.

Where we're going

Our long-term goal is a fully translated, multi-language archive — text, photography, and film — free to access for students, scholars, and devotees who may never be able to travel to Kathmandu. Five percent of all platform revenue already funds this work, and we report on it publicly every quarter.

All pujas are performed on-site at Pashupatinath by priests registered with the temple, following traditional Vedic procedure from start to finish.

Five percent of all revenue funds Pashupatinath-related preservation initiatives, with a public report of every rupee given.
